The Mausoleum was built for Mausolus, the Persian satrap of Caria, and his wife Artemisia. They loved each other very much, so when Mausolus died in 353 B.C., Artemisia wanted to create something special. π₯°
To build the tomb, they used white marble, and many skilled workers from Greece and other areas contributed. The construction took about 11 years and was completed around 350 B.C. The Mausoleum faced earthquakes over the centuries, but it stood strong and tall until the
Middle Ages when it was destroyed. π
οΈ Today, only its ruins remain, teaching us about history.
