During spring, male red-winged blackbirds court females by singing and showing off their beautiful wing patches! π
Once they attract a mate, they build nests out of grass, reeds, and mud, usually hidden in tall plants. Females lay about 3-5 eggs, which are brown with darker spots. After about 12-14 days, the eggs hatch, and both parents take care of the chicks, feeding them insects and seeds until they learn to fly! π£
