Red-bellied piranhas usually mate during the rainy season, from November to May. 🌧
️ During this time, females can lay 1,000 to 5,000 eggs! The eggs are laid in nests built in shallow waters. Once the eggs hatch, baby piranhas, called fry, are very small and vulnerable. They grow quickly and can swim independently in just a few days. In the wild, piranhas can live up to 10 years! Their strong jaws and teamwork help them survive and thrive as they grow into adult fish.
