You can find pileated woodpeckers living in various types of forests! 🌲
They prefer large, mature woodlands with lots of dead trees, where they can find insects to eat. They also enjoy mixed forests filled with oak, pine, and hickory trees. While they are primarily found in the eastern parts of the United States and southern Canada, these birds can also be spotted in the Pacific Northwest. During the winter months, they remain in these areas, as they are not migratory birds. Pileated woodpeckers are very adaptable and can thrive in both rural and urban environments! 🌆
