Montevideo was founded on September 24, 1726, by a
Spanish man named Bruno Mauricio de Zabala. 🌟
The name "Montevideo" comes from Spanish words meaning “I see a hill.” Early on, it was a small fort to protect from pirates! 🏴
☠️ Over time, the city grew and became important for trade. Montevideo played a big role in Uruguay’s struggle for independence from Spain in the early 1800s. 🎆
Today, you can still see many historical buildings that tell the story of the city’s past, like the Solis Theatre, which opened in 1856!
