The Kingdom of Sicily began with Roger II, who became king in 1130. He was part of the Norman family from France! π
οΈ Roger united many regions of the south, including parts of Northern Africa at times. Over the years, Sicily changed hands among different rulers; the Germans, Arabs, and
Spanish all had their turn. The island became famous for its beautiful architecture and gardens, influenced by all these cultures. In 1816, the kingdom was finally merged with the Kingdom of Naples to create a bigger state. π
