In 1953, Katherine Johnson joined NASA ๐, where she worked for more than 30 years! She was part of a team called the "Human Computers," which was made up of talented mathematicians who did complex calculations by hand. One of her first big projects was for the first American in space, Alan Shepard, in 1961. ๐
Katherine's work was crucial for making sure the flights were safe and successful. Although it was tough being a woman of color in a male-dominated field, she proved that with hard work, anyone can achieve great things. ๐ช
