Hail forms inside powerful thunderstorms called supercells. ๐ฉ
๏ธ First, the strong winds in the storm push water droplets up into cold areas of the atmosphere. โ
๏ธ As these droplets rise, they freeze and create tiny ice pellets. These pellets can get tossed up and down in the storm many times, collecting more layers of ice each time. Finally, when the hailstones become too heavy, they fall to the ground! The strong updrafts in the storm help the hailstones grow. This process can happen in just a few minutes! Isnโt nature amazing? ๐
