Blue-and-yellow macaws mate for life! π
During mating season, they build nests in tree hollows, where females lay 2 to 4 eggs. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs for about 28 days until they hatch. The baby macaws, called chicks, are fluffy and rely on their parents for food and protection for several months. After about 3 months, they learn to fly and become more independent. In the wild, blue-and-yellow macaws can live up to 30 years, but in captivity, they can live even longer, sometimes over 50 years! π
