The history of the Apostolic Palace goes back to the 14th century! It was first built in 1309 when the Pope moved to Avignon, France. In 1377, the Pope returned to Rome, and the palace became his home. π
Over the years, it has been expanded and renovated by many Popes, making it a unique mix of different styles. Some popes lived there while helping shape the Catholic Church. The famous Pope Julius II, who hired Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel, also contributed to this wonderful palace! π¨
