American White Pelicans are very caring parents! 🦩
During the spring, they build their nests on islands to protect their eggs from predators. The nests are made of sticks, mud, and grasses. The female usually lays 2 to 5 eggs, which are light blue or green in color. 👶
The parents take turns warming the eggs. After about 30 days, the eggs hatch, and the little pelicans, called chicks, are covered in gray fluff. 👶🦢 The parents feed their chicks until they can find food on their own, which can take a few weeks.
