Learn how to create and manage a new class.

What is a class?

A class in ASTRO is just like a real class. Students are added to a class, and they can see all of the lessons, content and worksheets that they are assigned within a class. Teachers and support staff can then monitor in real-time what students in their class are doing, and grade their students work.

Tip: Creating a class for each subject area with 10-20 lessons leads to the best experience as this helps group content for students. However there are no limits to the amount of lessons or students you can add to a class!

Creating a class

To create a class, click anywhere on the ‘Create New Classroom’ card in the classrooms dashboard page.

A pop-up will appear to enter the name for your class. If you’re struggling for ideas it’s best to keep this simple! If you teach different classes it may make sense to include the class name, and perhaps the year, to make it easier to find in the upcoming terms. This way you can reuse assignments from year to year! You can assign an age-group to the class which will make it easier to find and reuse your classes in future years.

Alternatively, if you have created a class in Google Classroom and want to transfer the class across to ASTRO, you can click the Import from Google Classroom button.

NOTE: If you haven’t already linked your Google account please follow our tutorial on how to link a Google Classroom account to ASTRO.

After this your class will be ready to add teachers, add students, or create a lesson.

Edit class

To edit the class name and age-group click the 3 dots on the class card that you want to edit and select edit. This will present a popup where you can edit the class name and age-group.

If you want to edit the lessons, students, or worksheets within a class click the respective link for instructions.

Duplicate Class

To create a copy of a class click the 3 dots on the class and select the duplicate option. This will create a copy of the class with all of the lessons, content and worksheets of the classroom without any students so you can easily use it for another class of students.

Archive Class

To Archive or Unarchive a class click the 3 dots on the class and select the corresponding option. Then select the Archive / Unarchive action and it will change state. This feature is useful if you’re finished with a class and want to store it for the following year without cluttering your dashboard!

Sort classes

To sort classes in a specific order you can choose to sort classes by alphabetical, the date it was created and when it was last edited. This can be found near the top right corner of the classroom dashboard page. By default classes are ordered by the time of the last edit.

Can’t find your class?

Double check to see if you’ve archived it! This is the most common place you’ll find a missing class. If not, try using the search function to find it, or maybe search by a lesson you remember creating in that class.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What is URSOR?

URSOR is a brand-new app designed to allow kids to search the internet in a safe, appropriate manner. At URSOR we never track, allow advertising, or collect data of your child’s usage. Our goal at URSOR is to make a useful, safe platform for kids to start their early digital education. URSOR also allows kids to save and organise their previous searches in a visual way that helps retain knowledge and make connections between all of their interests!

What is a 'Browser for Kids'?

For us at URSOR, an Internet for Kids means a safe place where kids can explore  age-appropriate content on their favourite topics without the distractions of ads, click-bait, and hyperactive targeted content.  Inside URSOR there is no social media, no auto-play YouTube, and no mindless and passive attention-killing content.  Kids should be able to access the vast knowledge of the web without the exploitation of their vulnerable developing brains.

How does URSOR help children prepare for the digital world?

You would never throw your kid into the deep-end of a pool before he can swim, so we wouldn’t suggest doing the same with unfiltered, open-ended surfing online. URSOR starts kids slowly by introducing them to the basics of searching, choosing, and navigating sources. We remove the distractions of ads and excessive paid-for links so kids can learn first to view, digest, and retain information in a healthy age-appropriate manner.

Where can I try URSOR?

STAY TUNED! URSOR is being fine tuned and polished as we speak and will be released by Autumn 2022. Until then please sign-up here for weekly updates on our progress, interesting links for kids, and our super-helpful blog posts!

How can I get involved with URSOR?
